Great Multi-player Gaming

In the past half year, we’ve possibly been graced with two of the greatest multi-player games ever.  Both are sequels to previously great games, but both take things to a whole new level.

Modern Warfare 2Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released back in November and broke records as the fastest selling game of all time.  Popular on both consoles and PC’s it became an instant hit. PC gamers moaned as it came without dedicated servers, using gamers themselves to host as listen servers sometimes causing laggy matches. Luckily it was a good enough game to overcome such negatives, with many great game types, my favourites being demolition, domination and the more objective based games.  As you play, you level up through the ranks, up to 70, gaining extra weaponry and attachments as you go.  Also, perks are used, such as last stand which allows you to still fire your pistol once you’ve been shot ‘dead’.  Perks couple up with kill streaks to give MW2 that edge over any game previous.  You’re allowed to choose 3 kill streak rewards from those you’ve unlocked, the better rewards needing longer kill streaks to achieve.  The best I achieved was a 29 kill streak, taking air strikes and chopper gunner to get me there.  This occupied me for a long time, Xfire will tell you I’ve played over 110 hours of the game, only 4 other games have taken more of my time.
Bad Company 2

Then, last month came the much awaited Battlefield Bad Company 2. Four years ago, when I tore a disc in my back, Battlefield 2 occupied my days at home, for a total of 371 hours in fact.  Now came BC2, again squad and vehicle based but this time with destructible buildings!  The first time I shot a 40mm shell into a window concealing a sniper and the whole wall blew away, I knew I was going to enjoy this game.  It does of course work against you too, more than one occasion I’ve been in a building that has collapsed on me…

Within the game you get 4 class options, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Recon (Sniper).  Within these classes you progress through levels gaining better weapons.  At the same time you move up through ranks, in a similar way (albeit slower) to MW2.

One of the best things, as with BF2 you get web based stats. Mine can be seen, for now, here.

Already I’ve clocked up 60 hours on this and with a week off next week and then my knee surgery in two weeks, I can see it overtaking MW2 without too much trouble!
